World Cup warm up

Footballers from clubs across the country have been lending their support to the “World Cup Week” of fundraising for CLIC Sargent.

Store staff are organising a variety of activities in June - from World Cup sweepstakes to beat the keeper competitions - to help Tesco and CLIC Sargent achieve their goal of raising £5million to fund specialist children’s cancer nurses.

Club mascots and footballers from 10 teams – including Oldham Athletic, Hartlepool United and Bristol Rovers – popped into stores to pose for photos with staff ahead of “World Cup Week”, which is being held from June 14-21.

Aldershot footballers and Tesco staffFormer England striker and CLIC Sargent patron Gary Lineker said: “The World Cup is the greatest show on earth and this year’s competition is sure to grab everyone’s attention, whether they’re a football fan or not.

“CLIC Sargent is a wonderful charity and it’s fantastic that Tesco staff and customers are focusing their fundraising efforts this summer around the World Cup. Everyone’s sure to have a ball!”
