Tesco drivers help raise a truckload of cash
Thursday 10 June 2010
Tesco distribution staff are going the extra mile to help CLIC Sargent, their Charity of the Year for 2010.
The children’s cancer charity will have their logo proudly displayed on the back of 100 Tesco lorries driving the length and breadth of the country as the partnership hits top gear.
Tesco distribution centres are getting behind the Charity of the Year campaign to help raise £5 million to fund specialist children’s cancer nurses across the UK.
Every day in the UK around 10 families are told that their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent Nurses will help these children to spend more time at home and less time in hospital by co-ordinating all of their care.
Distribution staff, along with their colleagues in Tesco stores and offices, will be the driving force in raising the £5 million through a range of fun activities. Charity Champions in the Peterborough distribution centre are organising a day of dragon boat racing on the River Nene. Staff at the Unity distribution centre in Daventry are planning a golf day and the grocery stream is holding a clay pigeon shoot.
Alex Laffey, Distribution Transport Director, from Tesco said; “We are very happy to be supporting our Charity of the Year, CLIC Sargent, in this way. Our distribution centre staff are getting behind the partnership by raising money for the charity, and this initiative will add to this by raising awareness.”
