Orla Kiely designs reusable bag for charity

Acclaimed designer, Orla Kiely, has created an exclusive range of reusable shopping bags to raise funds for charity. The limited edition, collectable bags will launch exclusively through Tesco this December.
Renowned for her instantly recognisable, stylised graphic prints and patterns using everyday motifs, Orla’s Scribble Pear will be the first design available. This will be followed by a range of other bold designs in her familiar, elegant style, which will hit Tesco stores in the New Year.
Made from natural jute and cotton this must-have shopping accessory has been created to encourage shoppers to make use of a reusable bag and become less dependent on single-use plastic carrier bags.
The Orla Kiely bags will retail at only £4, with fifty pence from each sale divided equally between the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent, Tesco Charity of the Year 2010 and Orla’s personal charity, the Royal College of Art, which funds bursaries for textile students.
Commenting on the partnership Orla said: “I’m really pleased with the bags created especially for Tesco. I hope we can raise as much as possible to help two extremely worthwhile causes.”
Around 10 families a day are told that their child has cancer and treatment can last for up to three years. Julie Worrall, Tesco Campaign Manager at CLIC Sargent, said: “As Tesco Charity of the Year we aim to raise £5 million to help children with cancer spend more time at home and less time in hospital. The money we receive when customers buy Orla’s bags will help to fund CLIC Sargent nurses who coordinate children’s care at home so they can live as normal a life as possible.”
