Daredevil dads jump into action!
Tuesday 01 June 2010
Dozens of fearless fathers are aiming to make a difference this summer by taking part in an abseil to support CLIC Sargent.
One of the ‘daredevil dads’ taking part in a Father’s Day event on 20 June at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford is Simon Barlow, who is determined to raise money for CLIC Sargent after his daughter was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour in 2003.
“We’ve had some incredible support from CLIC Sargent ever since my daughter was diagnosed when she was seven,” said Simon.
Airline pilot David Cullen will be displaying his head for heights on 31 July when he takes part in an abseil at the Mersey Tunnel Ventilation Station in Birkenhead.
Captain Cullen signed up for the abseil challenge after his 14-year-old son Matthew was diagnosed with leukaemia in October 2008.
The 100ft abseil in Birkenhead is one of hundreds of events taking place during the year to help Tesco and CLIC Sargent achieve their goal of raising £5 million to fund specialist children’s cancer nurses.
You don't have to be a father to take part! To find out about an abseil in your area visit the Activity Days section of this website or call the Hotline on 08701 221 221.
