Getting publicity
If you are organising or taking part in a fundraising activity your local newspaper, radio or TV station will probably be interested to hear from you.
Media coverage is a great way of gathering more support, raising awareness and also raising money.
Here’s a step by step guide of how to do it.
- Write up details of your event in the form of a press release (you can download a press release template to help you).
- Contact your local newspaper, TV or radio station.
- Decide on the best date to tell the media about your story (7-10 days before the event is ideal).
- Send the press release to you local media contact.
- Follow up with a phone call 2 or 3 days before the event.
- Take part in any interviews and photographs.
- Say thank you to your local media for covering the story.
There’s a lot more advice about getting publicity for your event in the Fundraising Booklet. Or call the Tesco Hotline on 08701 221 221.
